2017 Ducati Desert Sled
The call came in from Sam an ex London city trader absolutely loving what we’ve been doing with our bikes lately, He’d been checking out our huge portfolio of both BMW and non-BMW customs and decided to bite the bullet!
Sam had a donor bike in mind which was the desert sled, having not seen one or sat on one he jumped on a plane from his home town of Monaco and headed for a Ducati dealership in London to just get the feel of one! Sam’s a tall guy so liked the high riding position & wide bars, he didn’t however like the plastic seat, funky colours, the odd lines and the bright gold rims; “honestly” he said; “Love the bike but it’s a bit tacky & lacks a bit of class!”
“we can help with that” I replied!
So after some time, selling his small electric car which occupied his one and only secure parking space in Monaco, the second phone call came in whilst I was in Kefalonia ,Greece on holiday, Sam was in LA at the time and the finished bike was to be delivered to Monaco!
So we set to work tracking down a nice pre owned sled, this particular bike came from a dealer in not so glamorous Skegness and was owned by a 70 year old gent for six months and had only clocked up 700 miles!
Once back at the shop, the work started, creating a more authentic bike, fabricating a new seat base, side panels & tail tidy, sorting the lighting by swapping out the massive indicators for tiny LED at the rear and bar end ones up front, nice deep grey metallic paint, conti tkc tyres, aftermarket exhaust silencer, front fender & Powder coating all the silver parts black, including getting rid of those blingy gold wheel rims! We also sourced vintage style Ducati tank badges, giving the tank side panels a more distressed look to go with the dark brown Leather upholstery!
